Dr. Parmela Sawhney is a family practitioner with 42 years of experience in integrative medicine, including Ayurveda—a 5,000-year-old system focused on prevention, balance, and wellness.

Dr. Sawhney has a strong belief that there are multiple ways for healing and prevention. This includes Ayurveda, homeopathy, energy medicine, and biohacking along with family practice. She has learned that nature has provided us with the tools for well-being, and her cultural background led her to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

Her curiosity in longevity led her to seek biohacking techniques to optimize the body's systems.

How Amaya Came to Be

A fellow biohacker enthusiast, Lisa Panissidi, and Dr. Sawhney attended the 2025 Biohackers Wellness Conference in Los Angeles where they recognized that detoxing and body balance with technology can be blended with ancient wisdom.

Biohacking is the practice of making intentional changes to one's lifestyle, environment, and body to maximize physical and mental performance, health, and well-being. It is an umbrella term that combines biology with a "do-it-yourself" (DIY) ethic to optimize the body's systems, from simple habits to advanced technology.

At the conference, they discovered the first available microbiome test that empowers individuals by offering a deeper understanding of the gut, so you can take full control of your health. They also researched NAD+, a scientist-formulated dietary supplement to increase NAD levels and boost cellular energy production. Aging happens at the cellular level—when we can measure it, we can address it.

During the 3-day conference, mushroom lattes were served throughout the day. Dr. Sawhney and Lisa noticed that they were alert and focused for both days of back-to-back speakers.

They learned that mushrooms such as Lion's Mane, Reishi, and Cordyceps help with blood sugar, immunity, blood pressure, and focus—without the jitters or acidity of coffee. Our bodies are naturally alkaline. When you are acidic, your body will be thrown off balance.

Amaya now offers this product as an alternative to coffee without the jitters or acidity.

Prior to the conference, Dr. Sawhney and Lisa investigated the benefits of an infrared sauna as a new modality for detox and de-stressing—as Ayurveda advocates sweating as the primary step to wellness to remove toxins and de-stress.

They procured a world-class sauna built by a doctor with virtually the lowest EMFs on the market while also providing chromotherapy—a holistic healing modality that uses the specific vibrational frequencies of colors to restore balance and promote well-being within the body's energy centers, known as chakras.

The red light panel was added for cellular healing after reading research by NASA.

An amazing Ayurvedic massage therapist has joined the team, who hails from the Deepak Chopra Center and provides four Ayurvedic treatments.

With Dr. Parmela Sawhney at the helm providing wellness consultations based on your body type and unique microbiome—Amaya Wellness Spa was created where ancient wisdom is blended with modern biohacking technologies.
